Maisha Marefu's Support for Doris's Poultry House

At Maisha Marefu, we believe in the transformative power of self-sufficiency and community-driven development. Our mission is to empower individuals and communities by supporting income-generating activities that pave the way for a sustainable future. Today, we are excited to share the inspiring story of Doris and her poultry house, a project that is not only providing for her own livelihood but also caring for 25 street kids who call her home.

Doris's Journey: From Caregiver to Entrepreneur

Doris has always been a beacon of hope for the street children in her community. Her home, a safe haven for 25 children, provides more than just shelter. It offers a sense of belonging, love, and a chance at a better future. However, running such a household comes with significant financial challenges. To ensure the sustainability of her noble mission, Doris needed a reliable source of income.

This is where Maisha Marefu stepped in. Recognising Doris's unwavering commitment and the potential for a sustainable income source, we financed the establishment of a poultry house. This poultry house, which started with a modest number of chickens, has become a cornerstone of Doris's efforts to achieve self-sufficiency.

The Impact: Eggs, Chickens, and Community Support

The poultry house has been a game-changer for Doris and the children under her care. With the initial setup, Doris began selling eggs and chickens, generating a revenue of about 20 euros per week. While this might seem modest, it is yet making a difference in covering daily expenses and providing for the children's needs.

Scaling Up: A Vision for the Future

Inspired by the success and the potential of the poultry house, Maisha Marefu is committed to scaling up this project. Our goal is to more than double the current revenue, significantly boosting the financial stability of Doris's household. By expanding the poultry house, increasing the number of chickens, we aim to create a more robust and sustainable income stream.

A Model for Sustainable Development

Doris's poultry house is more than just an income-generating activity; it is a model for sustainable development. It demonstrates how targeted support and investment can empower individuals to create self-sufficient communities. By providing Doris with the tools and resources needed to run a successful poultry business, we are not only helping her to care for the children but also setting an example for other communities.

Stay tuned for more updates on our projects!
